About
Hi, I'm David, the Frankenstein of the Fab Lab.
I'm a civil engineer and a lifelong builder in Arkansas. I take lab science, engineering and old-school craft, stitch them together, and see what comes to life.
The short version
- Civil engineer, licensed PE. BS 2013 and MS 2015, University of Arkansas.
- Builder since I was a kid. Running heavy equipment since age 14.
- Welder and potter. Metal, wood, clay, concrete and silicone all end up on my bench.
- Lab-science nerd. That's why there's a real stir plate inside a coffin.
- 20 years of ideas. Some of these products have been in my head for about two decades. Now they're getting built.
What a welding business taught me
I used to run a small welding business. I built a custom kayak rack on a trailer, metal-and-wood bookshelves, and 20-foot tables for a marble slab company.
The lesson: handmade work can't win on price against cheap mass-produced goods. So I stopped trying. Now I only make things a factory isn't already making.
What I make now
- The Living Potion Coffin. A 3D-printed gothic coffin with a real magnetic stir plate and color-changing light. Set a potion bottle on top and it swirls like it's alive.
- Concrete skull candles (coming soon). Cast from silicone molds of my own 3D-printed designs, with a refillable wax plug.
- The Reanimation Club (coming soon, only here). Seasonal wax refills so your skull candle keeps coming back to life.
Some pieces are made for a local witchy potion shop here in Arkansas.
What's next
The lab keeps growing: CNC, lathe and laser work, plus blacksmithing, knife making and, one day, swords.
Why I do it
I believe making things helps people keep a sense of purpose and creativity. If something from the lab makes your shelf, your altar or your booth a little more alive, and maybe makes you want to build something too, that's the whole point.
Every piece is printed, cast or finished by hand, tested, then shipped. Small variations in texture and color are part of handmade work.
The Lab
In the lab now
- Bambu Lab H2D dual-nozzle 3D printer with 4 AMS filament units, including 2 high-temp units for engineering filaments
- Welding and metal fabrication
- Silicone mold making and concrete and resin casting
- Pottery wheel
- Lab magnetic stir plates (the heart of the Living Potion Coffin)
- Engineering design by a licensed civil PE, plus a lifetime of heavy-equipment and hands-on building
Coming to the lab
- Laser cutter
- CNC machining
- Lathe
- Blacksmithing
- Knife making
- Sword making
- Bigger, more complex builds that mix all of the above
